Students who are temporarily hospitalized or undergoing medical/psychological treatment which does not allow them to participate in their regular school programs are entitled to receive home instruction from the district in which the hospital is located.
Home Hospital instruction shall be provided by credentialed California teachers most of whom are already staff at San Benito High School.
The district shall offer at least 1 hour of instruction for every day of instruction offered by the district in the regulr education program. No student shall be credited with more than 5 days of attendance per calendar week or credited with more than the total numbr of calendar days that regular classes are offered by the district in any fiscal year (Education Code 48200,44865) The instruction may be provided all in 1 day or over multiple days in the 5-day school week.
Home Hospital instruction may be offered only during the regular school year.
In order to qualify for the Home Hospital Program requires verification from a licensed medical doctor or psychologist that the student requires home instruction. This verification must include the diagnosis, the fact that the disabling condition is not a contagious disease and the date that the student shall enter the home hospital program and the ending date . A doctor's note is only valid for a maximum of 6 weeks. A student may not be placed on Home Hospital for a period longer than 6 weeks. In the event this needs to occur, a new doctor's note is needed.
